From Tierra Del Rey to Downtown San Diego: Your Commute, Mapped

If you work in downtown San Diego, Mission Valley, or along the Highway 8 corridor, Tierra Del Rey is a legitimately good commuter base. You have three ways to make the trip, and at least two of them beat sitting in traffic on the 5.

The fastest option most days is the MTS Orange Line trolley. Walk or drive one mile to the La Mesa Blvd station, park, and ride. You're at 12th & Imperial in downtown San Diego in about 25 minutes, and you skip every bottleneck on the 8. A one-way adult fare is $2.50; a monthly pass is $72. The trolley runs every 15 minutes during peak hours.

If you drive, Highway 8 is less than two miles from your front door. West to Mission Valley (Fashion Valley, Qualcomm Stadium redevelopment, Fenton Parkway) is 10–15 minutes outside of rush hour. Downtown via the 163 is 20–25 minutes. East to El Cajon is 8 minutes.

The 125 toll road runs just east of La Mesa and connects you to Otay Mesa and the South Bay without dealing with the 805. Most commuters skip the toll, but it's there when you need it.

Parking at Tierra Del Rey is included, and on-site management means maintenance is handled while you're at work. If you want to try the trolley commute before committing, park at Grossmont Center and ride in — it's a 10-minute test run.
